Branding

“Branding is important because not only is it what makes a memorable impression on consumers, but it allows your customers and clients to know what to expect from your company. It is a way of distinguishing yourself from the competitors and clarifying what it is you offer that makes you the better choice.” (sourcing: brandingmag.com)

Branding is a core aspect of your business. Here at IQ Co-Op we understand the intricacies of branding. So how do you do it correctly? Let’s discuss the three main pillars of branding a new business: Logos, Color Schemes, and Building a website.

Logos:

It is SO easy to get caught up in complicated designs, many colors, and edit after edit while designing your logo. Best Advice? Pay a graphic designer to put your thoughts into art. Remember to ground yourself in the process, it is so easy to get overwhelmed by trying to capture all of your passion, all of your work and all of your hopes for your new business into one nice compact logo. Remember simple logos make the biggest statement. (McDonalds, Pepsi, Nike)

Color Scheme:

Look online for color boards. Keep your branding to one or two main colors, with neutrals like black and white, grey, beige, or even a skin toned light pink or almost black-dark green. Remember instead of a typical neutral you can use silver, gold or rose gold.

Fonts and Web design:

Use no more than two fonts on your website, when you find a font you like remember it, and do your research. If you start to use many of the same fonts, like two cursives you risk your website looking busy. Use sites like dafont.com or other free font webpages to look at different styles. Remember that all fonts can not just be used on a website, you need to have rights to the font you use. Use the same fonts on all your print and social media platforms when possible. This means that when customers come to Facebook and see your name, and they see the same core branding that they know, they feel confident that you have a solid name in the community and reaffirm loyalties.

Most of all, take your time. Branding does not happen overnight so do not force it. Your business may have heart and soul, but bad branding stops all future customers from seeing those qualities. If it all seems a little much when you are just starting out, we get it.
